A MESSAGE TO HELPING PROFESSIONALS
When I wrote How to Shatterproof Your Marriage, I was feeling a strong need to offer something to my clients they were not finding on the bookstore shelves. What I was encountering in most of my therapy sessions were issues that techniques just did not address. There were weaknesses of character, beliefs that predisposed people for relationship problems and self-indulging attitudes. While we all find ourselves struggling with these things at times, they block therapy success.
I see a lot of couples in counseling, and these dilemmas seem to pop up daily. I wrote this book for couples, but then realized that they were essentially the same issues for individuals coming to see me. I have seen wonderful and immediate change with individuals struggling with non-marital issues just from reading this material!
If you are in a position to help others in a counseling or quasi-counseling capacity, you will find that recommending this book to your clients will enhance any of the work you are doing. It will make your life easier! While you address specific issues with them, reading this book will direct them to do a lot of important introspection, not to mention give them lots of tools for a renewed approach to marriage. If you suggest this reading while you are helping a couple, I sincerely believe you will find it helpful. I look forward to partnering with you in this way!
